Overview

This program is designed to help acclimate all first-time college students to the atmosphere at GateWay.

We are committed to seeing you achieve your educational goals by helping you start smart. If you meet the 1st time student criteria, follow these steps below to start smart:

Step 1: Complete the Student Information Form

New students are required to complete a student information form. Options include:

  • In person at GateWay Central (located in the Southeast corner of the South Building
  • By phone: (602) 286-8100
  • By fax: (602) 286-8070

Step 2: Take Your Placement Tests

You must take separate reading, writing and math placement test in the testing center, located in the Enrollment Services area of the south building (SO). You cannot register for class until all 3 tests are completed. Students who have completed all assessment tests may see an advisor to complete the registration process.

Step 3: Meet With an Advisor

Advisors help you plan the required courses for your program of study and enroll you in a new student orientation class. They also assist you in understanding how associate degree & transfer checksheets are used, and how the financial aid process works, including scholarships, grants and loans.

Step 4: Enroll in a College Success Class

This class will focus on student success by assisting you with a personalized Student Learning Plan, college orientation, personal growth, study skills, and educational and career planning.

Step 5: Attend a New Student Orientation Class

Orientation will acquaint you with the college, resources and support services available to assist you in your educational journey. A campus tour will be provided following the orientation, and you may also acquire your student ID and parking permit at that time.
