GateWay Partners with Arizona Department of Commerce, Sara Lee Bakery to Provide Leadership Training

Sara Lee BakeryGateWay has partnered with the Arizona Department of Commerce to provide Sara Lee Bakery with leadership training to advance their employees.

Sara Lee identified high potential in reliable employees, who could move up in the company, with proper training and information provided on how to lead others. These employees had already proven to be valuable workers, and by building leadership skills with GateWay, they could improve productivity in coworkers.

This training program has been structured to help Sara Lee's employees improve upon leadership skills in the following areas:

  • Communication Skills and Temperament Types
  • Listening Skills
  • Team Building
  • Think Like a Leader & Supervisory Skills
  • Positive Use of Power and Influence and Dealing with Difficult People
  • Performance Management and Delegation Techniques
  • Discipline and Corrective Action
  • Coaching Skills
  • Initiating and Managing Change
  • Conflict Resolution and Negotiation Skills
  • Time Management for Supervisors
  • Motivating & Retaining Employees

Funding for this project was made in part by a grant approved by the Arizona Department of Commerce. GateWay's Business Outreach Program partnered with the City of Phoenix's Economic Development Department and the staff of Sara Lee to request funding. A grant was successfully approved by the ADOC to pay for 50% of the training provided at Sara Lee's Phoenix location. Instructors from GateWay would go to the plant and offer onsite training to different groups of staff. The feedback from this program has been very positive to date.
