Overview
Health Unit Coordinating is an integral part of the healthcare team and involves
performing many non-clinical tasks associated with patient care. While working under the supervision of the
nursing department in a hospital, healthcare facility or physician's office,
coordinators
manage responsibilities such as:
- transcribing doctors' orders
- scheduling diagnostic tests and treatments
- managing patients' charts and unit supplies
HUC's are often referred to as Health Unit Clerks
and Health Unit Secretaries. Employment is found in hospitals, nursing
homes, clinics and physicians' offices.
