Overview
Hydrologic Studies involves learning about the properties of water and its
maintenance. Hydrologic technicians are vital to the health and
sustainability of water resources, providing maintenance and management
skills necessary for environmental protection.
Job responsibilities include:
- Managing lakes, rivers and oceans
- Monitoring the quality and quantity of surface and ground water
- Taking samples and flow measurements
- Installing gauges and surveying cross-sections of water ways
Characteristics of a hydrologic technician include having a love of nature
and passion for the environment. Many technicians spend a majority of their
time working outdoors.
Strong skills are needed in science and math to develop a thorough knowledge
of the water cycle, and national and state water standards. Employment is found
in organizations such as:
