Ironworking Apprenticeship
Overview
Ironworkers use steel and cable reinforcing in concrete construction;
erect steel skeletons for buildings, window, walls and curtain exteriors; rig
heavy machinery and welding related to the construction of large commercial
facilities such as stadiums, dams, high rises and bridges.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics,
88% of ironworkers work in construction, with 50% working for foundation,
structure and building exterior contractors. As the construction industry
grows, job opportunities for ironworkers are forecasted to be excellent.
