Nuclear Medicine Technology
Overview
Nuclear Medicine Technology is used in health care in the assessment,
treatment, management and prevention of diseases. Small amounts of
radiopharmaceuticals are administered to patients in order to assess
a physiological response.
NMT's use sophisticated
detection devices that obtain qualitative and quantitative data, assisting
physicians as they diagnose and treat diseases. Skills required in this
profession include:
- Giving basic patient care techniques
- Developing strong interpersonal communication skills
- Being detail oriented
- Being able to think abstractly
Most NMT job opportunities may be found in hospitals. Positions also
exist in physicians' offices, outpatient clinics and mobile units.
