Overview

Pipefitting involves the installation of a variety of piping systems ranging from comfort heating and cooling to high/low pressure systems found in commercial building applications, high rise buildings and energy producing facilities.

Workers in this industry often specialize in a variety of commercial and industrial settings. Advancement opportunities include becoming supervisors.

Employment Outlook

Apprentices earn 50-55% of the Journeyman hourly wage, receiving wage increases throughout the training period, as coursework and training is completed. Apprentices move up in status, earning the full Journeyman wage upon receiving the Journeyman card.

Employment demand is high in the pipefitting industry, and expected to grow in the future. On average, pipefitters earn an hourly rate of $9.73 to $25.73, for an annual salary range of $20,842.00 to $56,306.00.
