Business & Industry Training
A+
Certification
This certification is offered to enhance training across a wide
range of technology based industries. Qualified candidates include:
- “Entry-level” computer technicians.
- Technicians who have completed 500 hours of experience in
building, installing, configuring and repairing computers.
- Technicians with specific skills in Local Area Networking
and Wide Area Networking (routing and switching).
Certification Testing
The latest version of CompTIA A+ is CompTIA A+ 2009 Edition. Two
exams are necessary to be certified:
- CompTIA A+ Essentials, exam code 220-701
- CompTIA A+ Practical Application, exam code 220-702
CompTIA A+ Essentials measures the necessary
competencies of an entry-level IT professional with at least 500
hours of hands-on experience in the lab or field. It tests for the
fundamentals of computer technology, networking and security, as
well as the communication skills and professionalism now required of
all entry-level IT professionals.
CompTIA A+ Practical Application is an extension
of the knowledge and skills identified in CompTIA A+ Essentials,
with more of a "hands-on" orientation focused on scenarios in which
troubleshooting and tools must be applied to resolve problems.

Certification Preparation
We offer the following 2 courses to help prepare students for the
A+ certification:
- BPC170 - This course covers the concepts
necessary to pass the CompTIA A+ Essentials (220-701) exam.
- BPC270 - This course covers the
concepts necessary to pass the CompTIA A+ Practical Application exam.
Both courses are taught each semester in 8 week formats, and
additional classes may be scheduled for select cohorts of students.
On average, it takes 16 weeks to complete both courses. Accelerated
formats may be considered for selected cohorts of students.
Classes are traditionally offered on campus, as we have the
equipment and other facilities (tools, Internet access, etc.) that
are required for successful course completion. We can also work with
you to provide classes on-site, if the appropriate equipment and
facilities are available.
