Summer Youth Programs

DISCOVER Summer at GateWay Community College

We offer a variety of summer experiences on campus for K-12 students in a fun environment where career exploration and college credit opportunities exist.

DISCOVER Fun

Camp Gecko

Who: Children ages 5 - 12

When: May 18 - August 21 from 6:30 am - 6:00 pm, Monday - Friday

Cost: $140 per week. Includes breakfast, snacks and field trips.

Details: Educational and safe summer experience for students who have completed kindergarten through age 12. Weekly themes provide the basis for hands-on activities and field trips. Sign up for as many weeks as needed.

Explorer Camps

Who: Children ages 10 - 12

When: May - August from 8:00 am - noon, Monday- Thursday

Cost: $50 per week - Includes snacks and supplies

DISCOVER Talent

First Aid Camp

Who: Youths ages 13 - 15

When: June 14 - 25 from 8:00 am - noon, Monday - Thursday

Cost: $160 - Includes CPR instruction and snacks. Financial assistance is available. (Register for more info.)

Details: Learn the workings of the human body as you gain valuable emergency skills. Complete CPR training and wilderness first aid. Camp also includes demonstrations by GateWay's expert healthcare faculty and Maricopa's Mountain Rescue Team, giving you a taste of potential careers in healthcare.

Robotics Camp I: Design & Build

Who: Youths ages 13 - 15

When: June 7 - 17 from 8:00 am - noon, Monday - Thursday

Cost: $250 - Includes snacks. Payment plan available. (Register for more info.)

Details: Put your technology skills to the test by creating a robot. Learn the basics of design technology, then work in teams to build a functioning robot. Minimum of 15 participants needed.

Robotics Camp II: Programming & Competition

Who: Youths ages 13 - 15

When: June 21 - July 1 from 8:00 am - noon, Monday - Thursday

Cost: $250 - Includes snacks. Payment plan available. (Register for more info.)

Details: Take your robotics skills to the next level by programming a robot to maneuver a course. Then enter your team's robot in the Ultimate Championship Robotics Competition. Minimum of 15 participants needed.

DISCOVER Careers

Automotive Academy

Who: Students ages 16 - 18

When: June 7 - 24 from 8:00 am - noon, Monday - Thursday

Cost: Cost: $228. Financial assistance is available. (See application for more info.)

Details: Earn 3 college credits for
AUT101, Internal Combustion Engines Theory. Explore career opportunities in the automotive industry and learn about GateWay's partnerships with Toyota, Honda and Nissan. Students entering 11th or 12th grade or who have just graduated are eligible. Course includes a field trip to a local automotive dealer and hands-on activities in the lab.

Future Builders Academy

Who: Students ages 16 - 19

When: June 7 - 11 from 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday

Cost: No cost to qualified students - valued at $250.

Details: Be a part of building America's future through the construction trades. Earn 3 college credits while you work alongside construction industry professionals. This career development program includes OSHA 10 certification, soft skills training for career success and hands-on training on a build project. Students entering 11th or 12th grade or who have just graduated are eligible.

Healthcare Academy

Who: Students ages 16 - 18

When: June 14 - July 1 from 8:00 am - noon, Monday - Thursday

Cost: $300. Financial assistance is available. (See application for more info.)

Details: Earn 3 college credits for
HCC130, Fundamentals in Healthcare Delivery, and learn about GateWay's signature programs in Radiography, Physical Therapist Assisting, Respiratory Care, Nuclear Medicine and Surgical Technology. Students entering 11th or 12th grade or who have just graduated are eligible. Course includes a field trip to a local hospital.

Communications Academy - Special for Continuing Students

Who: Continuing GateWay students, ages 16 - 18

When: July 5 - 23; 8:00 AM - noon, Monday - Thursday

Cost: $280. Financial assistance is available. (See application for more info.)

Details: Earn 3 college credits for
COM100, Intro to Human Communication and gain valuable career experience in your industry. Course includes 30 hours of job shadowing in a business setting, either through your existing summer job or on a volunteer internship arranged by GateWay. Internships are available in healthcare, automotive, and business fields. Students entering 11th or 12th grade or who have just graduated are eligible. Past participants in GateWay's Academies have first priority.

Hoop of Learning Healthcare Program

Details: Students take a Healthcare class at GateWay in the morning and participate in afternoon internships at Phoenix Indian Medical Center.

ACE

Details: GateWay's Achieving a College Education (ACE) program  targets high school students who traditionally would not consider going to college, and helps them transition from high school through community college and onto a bachelor's degree. Participating high school juniors and seniors meet every Saturday during fall and spring semesters and during the first summer session in June. During this 2 year program, ACE students earn up to 24 transferable college credits.
