When most people think of art, they typically visualize paint on a canvas or charcoal drawings. They probably wouldn’t constitute a man running on a treadmill up in the air as art.

As a part of a performance art piece at the Venice Biennale Art Festival, GateWay cross-country coach, Flash, ran on the treadmill for 15 minutes at a time, 2-4 times a day. People circled the exhibit to take pictures of the spectacle.

The treadmill sat atop a 52-ton military tank turned upside down. The tank came from Manchester, England and was transported by boat on two flatbed trucks.

The project was brought to life by Allora & Calzadilla, an artist team in Puerto Rico.

The treadmill exhibit was a part of six projects the couple brought to the festival, and was very popular to attendees.
