As they approach the Region 1 National Qualifier Meet on November 1, GateWay's Cross Country runners are getting faster and faster. On October 20, the Geckos went to Crossroads Park in Gilbert for the Mesa Classic, which doubles as the site of their next race. Daniel Blech led the Gecko pack with a season best of 28:19, averaging 5:51 per mile for the 4.95 mile course. David McCain ran 30:23, a major 53 second personal best.  Charles Hursh unleashed the hurt and crossed the line in 31:40, an astounding 22 second improvement.  GateWay Coach Flash Santoro even joined the fun and ran unattached alongside the team, finishing in 28:59.

Carrie Weldy continued with her high octane performances and brought her lifetime best down to a 19:34 for the 3.1 mile course. The Geckos return to intense racing action again on November 1, in an attempt to qualify for the 8K/5K National Championships in Hobbs, New Mexico.
