Though the men’s soccer team struggled at times this year, there are a lot of positives coming from the season. The team, which went 4-16-1 on the season, faced some growing pains. The majority of the players were freshmen and most of them had never played together.

Though they had some tough losses, they proved that they had heart. They fought in a lot of their games and shocked opponents who thought they would be easily beatable.

For the first time in GateWay men’s soccer history, two of the players were recognized by the ACCAC during the season. Arturo Molina and Francisco Marmolejo both received the honors, Molina for Player of the Week and Marmolejo for Goalkeeper of the Week.

Marmolejo also was the first Gecko to be named to the 1st Team All-Conference.

Their four wins were the most wins secured in a season since the team’s inception and the 13 points they secured was also a program-best.

These statistics show that the team is moving forward and has the potential to be very successful in the future. If players return and they continue building together as a team, the sky is the limit for the Geckos.
