Dr. Fernando Camou
Dr. Fernando Camou has served as Dean of Instruction of Arts, Sciences and General Education since Fall 2006 at Glendale Community College (GCC). He also served as Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs for the 2005-2006 academic year. Dr. Camou came to GCC in 1989 as a Residential Faculty member in the Chemistry Department and was elected as the Department Chair in 1995. After 16 years in the full-time faculty ranks, he was selected to be part of the college administration team.
Dr. Camou earned his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Arizona. He also obtained a Bachelors of Science degree in Chemistry as well as a Master of Science degree in Organic Chemistry, both also from the University of Arizona. Dr. Camou truly enjoys working with faculty and Department Chairs as together they continue to explore ways in which they can better meet their community’s needs in higher education. To this endeavor, Dr. Camou continues attending national as well as local conferences, seminars, and workshops. He was selected and completed the National Community College Hispanic Council Leadership Fellows Program (2007), a program to develop leaders in the community college systems. He has also been involved in the development of 2+2 partnerships between GCC and Northern Arizona University and continues to explore such avenues to provide an easier route to students seeking to pursue a university degree.
Dr. Camou is a member of Westmarc’s Education Committee, the Glendale Kachina Rotary Club, and Board member of the West Valley Foundation among other community involvements.
