Environmental Education

The Arizona desert landscape provides a unique environment for learning about creating indoor environments right here on campus at the Johnson Controls Phoenix Institute.

Industry leaders and professionals have been taking advantage of the Building Environmental Systems Laboratory here at GateWay since its dedication on March 31, 1998. Participants have the chance to test their skills on real building equipment, without compromising the real indoor environment.

Our students become Air Conditioning Refrigeration Facilities Technicians utilizing hands-on training in a real-world setting. Much of the equipment students use in training has been donated to GateWay by JCI.

"This facility boasts the best teaching and learning environment available anywhere for students entering the HVAC field and for employers seeking to upgrade the skills of their technicians," insists Dr. Clyde Perry, chair of GateWay's Industrial Technology Division.

"GateWay is proud to take a leading role in providing quality training using the latest technology," said GateWay President Giovannini. "This is a perfect example of the kind of public-private partnerships we seek to cultivate to foster good jobs for our graduates and a well-trained workforce for employers."
