From Banking to Healthcare, GateWay Grad Finds New Passion as a Radiologic Technician
Prior to beginning his career in the medical field, Mario Hernandez spent a large part of his life working in the banking and mortgage industry. After realizing he wanted to make a difference in the lives of others, Hernandez sought out information on the allied health programs at GateWay.
Initially working as a Practical Technician, he discovered a new passion.
“This is when I decided I wanted to become a Radiologic Technologist (RT); a professional who takes x-rays of the entire body and more,” he said.
After visiting several schools, he immediately noticed the GateWay staff’s professionalism and knowledge. When he met with Healthcare Program Advisor, Carolyn Delgado he knew GateWay was the best choice for him.
“She always had a smile and made me feel welcomed right from the beginning. She explained the total cost of the program, and I was very impressed with how affordable it was in comparison to other schools I had visited.”
When asked about his experience at GateWay, Hernandez thanks his excellent teachers. After just a few weeks in the program he could see their passion and love for teaching.
“Any time I needed help or had questions, they were always willing to help. This made the entire process so much easier for me.”
Hernandez shares some words of wisdom to students thinking about joining the program,
“Plan financially, utilize the available resources such as tutoring, career services, library and counseling. Everyone at GateWay is always willing to extend their support.”
Hernandez currently works as a Radiologic Technologist at Banner Health and looks forward to obtaining an additional certification in Computed Tomography.
