Graduation

GateWay provides graduation specifically for students graduating with degrees and certificates in Occupational and University Transfer education or Trade and Technical Training programs. Please complete an application for the graduation ceremony that pertains to your program.

 

Graduation for Trade and Technical Training Programs

A graduation ceremony for those completing a Trade and Technical Training clock hour program is held to recognize the fulfillment of your program requirements.  For 2016-2017, GateWay Community College will hold Trade and Technical Training commencement ceremonies once a quarter on the following dates: 

Friday, Sept. 9
Friday, Dec. 9 (Application Deadline is Nov. 14)
Friday, March 3 (Application Deadline is Feb. 10)
Thursday, June 8 (TBD)

Ceremonies are held at the Central City Campus in the Education Excellence Center (B401/B402).

Start time is 4:30 p.m. Students need to check in by 3:30 p.m. in the Assessment Testing area in the B Building.

Clock Hour Graduation Application

 

Eligible commencement ceremony participants must meet the following criteria:

  • Complete a Clock Hour Graduation Application 
  • Pay the appropriate document and commencement fees
  • Have completed all requirements for the certificate, OR be enrolled in coursework that will be completed within six weeks of commencement

Graduation Costs

  • There is no cost to apply for graduation
  • Commencement: $25 (includes cap, gown, tassel and diploma cover)

Steps For a Successful Graduation

  1. Pay the $25 commencement ceremony fee at Enrollment Services, if you want to participate one of the ceremonies. The commencement fee is refundable up to two weeks prior to graduation. Fee includes:
    • Award document(s)
    • Hard cover jacket for degree/certificate
    • Cap, gown and tassel
  2. Any debts within the Maricopa Community Colleges must be cleared before a certificate can be released.
  3. Please be sure to verify and correct as needed your address in the Student Center. All degrees/certificates will be mailed to the applicant’s address on record.

 

Graduation for Occupational & University Transfer Education Programs

A graduation ceremony for those completing the Occupational & University Transfer Education credit hour programs is held once a year in May. GateWay Graduation for credit hour programs is the official ceremony that confers certificates and degrees upon students who have fulfilled program requirements.

The graduation ceremony will be held on May 12, 2017. Location to be determined.

Start time is 5:45 p.m. Students need to arrive before 4:30 p.m.  The ceremony will be streamed live, so home-bound or out-of-town family and friends are able to watch it.

There are no locker facilities to store personal items and NO FOOD OR BALLOONS are allowed in the venue. Only water is allowed.

  • Complete a Credit Hour Graduation Application 
  • Pay the appropriate document and commencement fees
  • Have completed all requirements for the degree and/or certificate, OR be enrolled in coursework that will be completed within four weeks of commencement

Graduation Costs

  • There is no cost to apply for graduation
  • Commencement: $25 (includes cap, gown, tassel and diploma cover)

Steps for a Successful Graduation

  1. It is recommended that students schedule an appointment with an Academic Advisor as early as possible to review their program requirements for graduation. Students can also refer to the Catalog and Student Handbook to check on their program requirements for graduation.
  2. Official transcripts must be sent directly to GateWay from any Maricopa college or other college or university for the courses that will apply toward the degree/certificate.
  3. Graduation application deadlines. :
    (Next business day, if deadline falls on a weekend)
    • Submit application for fall semester by November 1 
    • Submit application for spring commencement by March 1 
    • Submit application for summer by June 1
  4. A notification letter will be mailed approximately 30 days prior to the day of the commencement ceremony detailing this event and cap and gown pickup.           
  5. Pay the $25 commencement ceremony fee at Enrollment Services, if you want to participate in the ceremony in May. The commencement fee is refundable up to two weeks prior to graduation. Fee includes:

    • Hard cover jacket for degree/certificate
    • Cap and gown
  6. Any debts within the Maricopa Community Colleges must be cleared before a degree/certificate can be released. (Nursing Students: Awards and nursing letters will not be released until all debts are cleared.)
  7. Please be sure to verify and correct as needed your address in the Student Center. All degrees/certificates will be mailed to the applicant’s address on record.
PTK students should see their PTK advisor regarding the stole and tassels prior to commencement.
Veterans should see their Veterans Representative when submitting an application to graduate.

Requesting Transcripts

You are now able to request a single transcript report no matter how many Maricopa Community Colleges you have attended. Rather than having to request transcripts from each institution you attended, you are now able to place the request for official or unofficial transcripts from one place.
