Maricopa Skill Center (MSC) will be hosting an Open House for the Massage Therapy Program from 9-11 a.m. on June 25th at the Northwest Campus (NWC), 2931 W. Bell Road, Phoenix.
During the open house, there will be opportunities to meet the instructor and have in-depth presentation of the program detail. Tours of the classrooms and the campus will be available. Enrollment Specialists will be on-site for those interested in enrolling.
The Career Center at the Northwest Campus operated in partnership with Goodwill of Central Arizona will be open to the public as well from 9:30-11 a.m. Goodwill partnered with MSC in January to bring Career Centers to both MSC campuses. MSC is the first educational institution to have a Goodwill Career Center on campus, which provides career services to the public for free.
“With the addition of this program, MSC is able to offer another high demand training option for students looking into a rewarding career,” said Kristina Scott, Assistant Director Northwest Campus. “Maricopa Skill Center strives to provide relevant career training so our students will be successful in the workforce.”
Massage Therapy is the newest program to MSC and is currently enrolling students. It will be offered exclusively at the NWC. The first cohort of students will start the program September 2014.
Students will spend the majority of the class time learning hands on the art of massage while taking the course. The program focuses heavily on anatomy, Swedish and Deep Tissue massage. Student will have exposure to Asian modalities, sports massage, pregnancy massage and business classes. Average time of completion of the course is eight months with an estimated cost of $5,505.
Upon completion of the program, students will receive a certificate of completion of the Massage Therapy program and licensing from the Arizona State Board of Massage Therapy. Students also get to take their massage table, massage chair, sheets and oils when they graduate.
"It's the career opportunities for Massage Therapists that are so exciting,” said Michael Tapscott, Massage Therapy Instructor. “Not only are the employment opportunities growing at twice the average rate, but also Massage Therapy is becoming mainstream in the Medical Industry. Graduates can still choose to work in spas and on cruise ships, but they can just as easily work in hospitals or rehab centers.”
MSC’s Cosmetology Salon will be running an Open House Special from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on June 25th. For $10, customers can get a haircut with a blow dry and style, a five-minute scalp treatment, and a plain manicure. For appointments call 602-392-5000, walk-ins acceptable.
Maricopa Skill Center’s Northwest Campus opened in August 2013. Currently, the Cosmetology and Aesthetics certificate programs are also offered on the campus. MSC additionally houses West-MEC cosmetology and aesthetician student at the NWC campus in the afternoons.
