Freshman Academy
Starting Strong at GWECHS
All incoming 9th-grade students participate in our two-week Summer Freshman Academy, designed to help students make a confident and successful transition into high school and the GWECHS community.
During the Freshman Academy, students:
- Assess their Reading and Math skills to help identify strengths and areas for growth.
- Set up technology and learn how to access the digital tools and resources they will use throughout high school.
- Build high school readiness skills through engaging activities and experiences designed to prepare students for the expectations of high school and college.
- Meet teachers, staff, and classmates while beginning to build relationships and a sense of belonging within the GWECHS community.
- Explore what it means to be a GWECHS student, including the expectations, opportunities, and resources available to help them succeed.
Freshman Academy provides every incoming freshman with a foundation for success before the first day of school. Students begin the school year with greater familiarity, confidence, and the tools they need to take their first steps toward becoming college- and career-ready.
