Over 400 teens from high schools across the Valley descended on GateWay Community College on Nov 1. These teens were not participating in a flash mob, rather, they were visiting the college to learn more about potential career paths and the degrees that are offered at GateWay as part of Career Exploration Day.
“The event was a great success for the student as well as for the college,” said Christine Lambrakis, Director of Marketing and Public Relations. “This is evident by the comments we received from attendees as they really enjoyed the experience and interactivity of the staff that participated in the event.”

The bi-annual event featured an extended tour of the campus, with GateWay representatives highlighting many of the college’s 125 programs as well as its cutting-edge labs and facilities. For Christine Lambrakis it represents an opportunity to display GateWay Community College as an innovative place to learn.
“GateWay has some of the most well-respected programs in the state, including Nursing, Medical Radiography, and Automotive Technology, all of which have state-of-the-art facilities,” she said. “Career Exploration Day allows hundreds of young high school students to learn about them and show them why GateWay is a great option for them.”
After the tour, students participated in a career fair, where they were able to meet with local employers and learn about potential career options as well as how GateWay can help fulfill their academic and professional aspirations.
“We have had tremendous support from local businesses, which is great,” Lambrakis said. “Students can hear directly from employers about new and exciting job opportunities and what it takes to enter those fields.”
However, it is not just a day of exploration, there is also plenty of time for fun. After the career expo, students had time to enjoy lunch and listen to music in the campus amphitheater as well as participate in games and raffles where they could win GateWay prizes.
Preparations are under way for an upcoming event in March of 2013.
