Phoenix, Ariz. – Ophthalmic Assistant students at Maricopa Skill Center (MSC) will be hosting a FREE Blood Pressure Clinic from 12:45-2:45 p.m. on Sept. 24.

The clinic is open to the public at MSC main campus, 1245 E. Buckeye Rd., Phoenix, Room A241.

“High blood pressure is known as the ‘silent killer’ because symptoms are often ignored or not obvious,” said Pat Lamb, Ophthalmic instructor. “This screening is a preventative measure; it’s important to know your numbers. It is also a great experience for our students to work with the public.”

Ophthalmic Assistant students will provide the blood pressure checks under the supervision of instructors.

MSC is the only school in Arizona to have an accredited Ophthalmic Assistant program. While in the seven-month long program students learn ophthalmic assisting as well as some nursing assisting skills. Students also participate in a 120-hour clinical before receiving their certificate. More information on the Ophthalmic Assistant program can be found at: gatewaycc.edu/ophthalmic-assistant
