GateWay Geckos 2026 Beat Paradise Valley CC Pumas in Final Game of the Season

The last game of the season for the GateWay Geckos ended with some big hits and an extra-inning victory. Josh Warman hit two home runs and drove in three as GateWay defeated Paradise Valley 14-11 on Saturday at PVCC. Warman homered in the seventh and eight innings. The Geckos collected 10 hits and the Pumas had nine in the high-scoring affair. GateWay opened the scoring in the first after Austin Mallee homered to left field, scoring two runs. 

Paradise Valley captured the lead, 4-2, in the bottom of the second when Lucas Mitchell doubled, scoring one run, and Jacob Lewis tripled, scoring two runs. The Pumas scored six runs on four hits in the bottom of the third inning. GateWay Geckos scored one run in the top of the sixth on a solo home run to right field by Matt Maize. Warman hit a solo home run to right field in the top of the seventh for the Geckos to close the gap to 5-10, Pumas. GateWay tied the game in the top of the eighth thanks to a ground out by Mallee, a single by Rylen Renton, a double by Tanner Solinsky, and a second home run to right field by Warman. The Geckos made the score 14-10 in the top of the tenth after Mallee scored after tagging up, Bryan Munoz singled, scoring one run, and Zane Coggins doubled, scoring two runs. Paradise Valley scored one run in the bottom of the tenth on a solo home run to left field, but it was too little too late.

Aodhan Giddings pitched four and one-third innings in relief for GateWay. The reliever gave up one hit and zero runs while striking out four and walking one. Hunter Cowgill opened the game for the Geckos. The starter had a rough start and only went two and two-thirds innings. Devon Hewitt stepped on the hill first for the Pumas. The starting pitcher allowed four hits and five runs over seven innings, striking out 11 and walking one.

GateWay tallied 10 hits in the game. Renton, Coggins, and Warman each collected two hits for the Geckos. Mallee and Warman each drove in three runs. Paradise Valley accumulated nine hits in the game. Lewis led the Pumas with three hits in five at bats from the leadoff position. Stewart collected two hits in four at bats.
