Geckos Vanquish PC Bears In High-Scoring Affair

There were plenty of runs on Friday at The Gene, as the Geckos outpaced the PC Bears 12–8. The Geckos recorded 13 hits in the game, while the PC Bears totaled 14.

The Geckos rallied for the win after trailing 7–3 in the fifth inning.

The PC Bears struck first in the opening inning when Gunnar Gift singled to drive in a run. The Geckos answered in the bottom of the first, taking the lead after Kyle Hubert singled to the left side of the infield and Bryk Barnard grounded out, each bringing in a run.

The PC Bears moved ahead 4–2 in the top of the third on Parker Noah’s RBI single and Logan Carney’s two-run double. The Geckos regained control in the bottom of the seventh when Hubert doubled to score two runs and Troy Breazeale followed with an RBI single.

Bronson Sluiter earned the win for the Geckos, allowing just one hit and no runs over three innings while striking out four and walking one. Starter Ivan Anguiano pitched five and two-thirds innings, giving up 12 hits and eight runs with six strikeouts and two walks. PC Bears starter Caden Marriott allowed eight hits and six runs, five earned, over five and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking two. Hunter Cowgill also appeared in relief for the Geckos.

The Geckos finished with 13 hits. Hubert led the middle of the lineup with three RBIs, going 2-for-4, while leadoff hitter Matt Maize set the tone with four hits in five at-bats. Chuck Meister added two hits in limited opportunities, and the Geckos swiped three bases.

The PC Bears collected 14 hits, led by leadoff hitter Brayden Flores, who went 3-for-6. Carney drove in three runs and finished 2-for-4. Gift and Jose Fernandez each recorded multiple hits, and the Bears totaled four stolen bases.
