Prepare for Safer Patient Care

GateWay Community College is home to the only community college–based Safe Patient Handling Education (SaPHE) Lab in the Southwest. This dedicated training space supports students in our Nursing and Allied Health programs as they learn how to safely assist and move patients in real-world care environments.

Inside the SaPHE Lab, students practice simulated scenarios using advanced patient-handling technology from Arjo, Liko, Handicare, Wy’East, and HoverTech. They learn how to safely transfer patients in hospital rooms, rehabilitation settings, diagnostic areas, and even the surgical suite.

Safe Patient Handling and Mobility training helps students develop essential skills shown to:

Improve patient outcomes

Improve interdisciplinary approaches to patient care

By incorporating the lab into Allied Health and Nursing programs, graduates are better prepared for the physical challenges of today’s changing healthcare environment.

The SaPHE Lab is available for rent to help meet your training needs.

Safe Patient Handling New Employee Orientation: Customize training programs in SPH techniques and equipment based on facility-specific policy education.
