Testing Guidelines

It is recommended you complete this step well in advance of your scheduled appointment to ensure you are prepared for your upcoming exam. If you need technical assistance, you can contact HESI technical support at 1-800-222-9570.

Chrome books are not compatible with the HESI lockdown browser.

  • Make sure to download the compatibility check to ensure the test will download correctly. It will check the following:
    Browser
    Operating System
    Internet Connection
  • Afterwards, download the mock exam to your computer to ensure that questions and images will load correctly to your computer.
  • Once you have passed all checks, please check to make sure you're able to share your entire screen on Google Meets. We use screen sharing to help with monitoring your screen during your exam. If your computer is not able to screen share on the day of your exam then you will not be able to continue for that day. Click here to learn more about screen sharing.

  • Please go back to the Google Meet invitation sent to your Maricopa Student Email and click the Google Meet link. You will be asked to join the meeting (Make sure you are accessing the link via your Maricopa Student Email. You will be denied if you are using an
    outside MCCCD email). Please wait patiently and the GWCC proctor will be with you at your scheduled time.
  • Your microphone must be on and working properly
  • Your video feed cannot have any filtered background or blur effect
  • Your shoulders and entire face must be visible during the test session
  • Your laptop must be fully charged and charger should be nearby
  • Your internet speed must be at a minimum of 15 mbps
  • DO NOT use a notebook for scratch paper. Please have 3 sheets of paper and show the proctor during check-in. You will need to tear the sheets that you used during the test session.
  • During your virtual check‐in, you will be asked to present a valid State, Federal or Student I.D. (i.e. driver’s license, passport, MCCCD student identification card etc.) before the exam.
  • Your Room Requirements:
      ► Must be distraction‐free area
      ► Must be quiet
      ► Must be only YOU in the room
      ► Must have adequate lighting. Your face must be visible to the GWCC proctor. Please make sure you are in a well lit area. DO NOT have your back toward an open window.
  • You will be asked to have your cell phone next to you in case of a disruption in the internet OR video feed. If the GWCC proctor is unable to reach you via cell phone, or Google Meet microphone, then your test will be paused and may face possible test termination.
  • You will need to have your Evolve username and password ready for logging in (your Evolve username is not your email address. You can locate your Evolve username by logging into your Evolve account or if you're new, please create a new Evolve account.)
  • You are only allowed to have scratch paper and pencil (pen is allowed) and will need to show the proctor these materials during your virtual check‐in.
  • You are only allowed to use the calculator provided on‐screen by the test.
  • The proctor will explain how to log in and download your HESI exam to your computer.
  • If you are using a laptop, please ensure your battery is fully charged.
  • Your internet connection must be in good working order; please check your connections PRIOR to testing.
  • You will be asked to share your screen using Google Meets with your GWCC proctor to ensure there is no cheating being conducted.
  • Please do not have any other tabs open or personal information displayed.
  • Bathroom breaks are permitted.
  • No hats, hoodies or sunglasses may be worn during the exam session.
  • No smart watches of any kind are allowed.
  • No headphones, ear pieces or any other electronic devices are allowed.

PLEASE READ BEFORE SIGNING IN

  1. ID: You MUST have a valid, recognizable and up-to-date photo ID to test.
  2. COURTESY LOCKERS: All belongings MUST be secured in a locker. In the event a locker is NOT available or belongings do not fit in the locker, you will be responsible for them. Any personal items MAY NOT be left out on any grounds of the testing center.
  3. COMPUTER USAGE: Computers are only used for online examination. YOU MAY NOT VISIT OUTSIDE SOURCES DURING YOUR TEST!
  4. TEST MONITORING: During your exam you will be monitored by video surveillance and proctors.
  5. SCRATCH PAPER: Will be provided by Testing Center for exams which the use is permitted and must be turned in to proctors.
  6. DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR: Any student acting in a disruptive manner will be asked to leave the testing center.
  7. BREAKS: Must be approved by a proctor.
  8. TECHNOLOGY: Cell phones, smart watches, Fitbits, Bluetooth devices and all other electronic devices MUST BE TURNED OFF & IN THE LOCKER. Failure to put away any electronic device will result in your exam being terminated.
  9. NO FOOD, DRINKS, HATS, BAGS OR ELECTRONIC DEVICES INSIDE THE TESTING ROOM
  10. ACADEMIC MISCONDUCT: If you are suspected of Academic Misconduct your exam may be voided. The matter will be referred to the instructor and faculty division chair for further review and, if applicable, disciplinary action (AR 2.3.11).
  11. CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 18 CANNOT BE LEFT UNATTENDED WHILE CANDIDATE IS TESTING (A.R. 2.4.10).

Note: ALL EXAMS MUST be turned in by closing. There are NO exceptions to the testing Procedures.

  1. Go to Google Invite and select Join Google Meet link
     
  2. Choose to share your entire screen*
     
  3. Select to share your entire screen/monitor
    Click on the image of the monitor/screen (if dual monitors used, only select one) and then select Share”

    Note: ***If you have dual monitors and the test does not open on the monitor that you chose, you will need to stop sharing and redo this step to choose the other monitor to share.

  4. Make sure to keep your video and microphone on at all times.

  5. Use the chat box to receive links only; DO NOT communicate via chat or leave the secured browser once the test has started
    unless you are kicked out of the test.

    Note: Once you start your test, you will not be able to leave the secured browser.

Fix issues when you present

If you’re not able to present in a Google Meet video meeting, you should give your browser access to record your screen.
On an Apple® Mac® computer using macOS® Catalina® version 10.15 or later, let Firefox® or the Chrome Browser access your computer’s screen recording:

  1. Go to System Preferences>Security & Privacy.
  2. Click Privacy.
  3. On the left, click Screen recording.
    For Mac users: On the bottom left, click the lock to make changes. In the window, enter in your password  click unlock.
  4. On the right, check the Google Chrome or Firefox box.
