Auto Challenge Tent and Nissan Car

While some students and teachers may not be in school on Thursday and Friday, about 30 high school students, along with their teachers, from 10 high schools from across Arizona will be in Phoenix to compete in the Arizona High School Auto Challenge, sponsored by ABC Nissan and Maricopa Community Colleges.

More than 500 high school students from Arizona competed online via a written qualifying test to be selected prior to this challenge.

At the challenge, the top students will demonstrate their automotive skills by fixing a uniformly “bugged” vehicle. A full-time student scholarship will be at stake.

Students from the following schools are participating:

Cibola
EVIT
Flowing Wells
Gilbert
Kofa
Lake Havasu
Mountain View
Page
West-MEC
Safford

The qualifying exam provided all students the experience of sitting for the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification tests, the industry standard. Awards, tools and scholarships will be presented to students during the competition, which is supported by GateWay Community College, Glendale Community College and Mesa Community College automotive programs.

Auto instructors from across the Maricopa Community Colleges have banded together to present the Auto Challenge, which replaces a similar competition co-hosted for 22 years by Ford and AAA.
