Dr. Tom Nevill Named New Vice President of Academic Affairs

Following a nationwide search for a new Vice President of Academic Affairs, GateWay Community College is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Tom Nevill, effective January 16, 2024. 

Dr. Nevill boasts over 20 years of distinguished experience in higher education. He has held executive, administrative, and faculty roles throughout his career. 

“Dr. Nevill brings a wealth of experience with a proven track record,” said Dr. Amy Diaz, GateWay President. “I am confident that his expertise will contribute to advancing our commitment to student success and workforce development at GateWay."\

Before joining GateWay, Dr. Nevill served as the Vice President of Academics at Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kansas. There, he led a college-wide initiative to become the first Adobe Creative Campus in Kansas (50th in the world), earning awards for innovation and equity in higher education. Under his leadership, Butler Community College also became an Intermediary Sponsor, securing $1.4 million to enhance Registered Apprenticeships in Kansas.

Dr. Nevill has held leadership positions at Austin Community College (Texas), Pima Community College (Arizona), and Guilford Technical Community College (North Carolina).

“I am honored to join GateWay as the new Vice President of Academic Affairs, where I am committed to fostering a culture of academic excellence and innovation,” said Dr. Nevill. “Together with our dedicated faculty and staff, I look forward to advancing the college's mission, enhancing academic programs, and ensuring a vibrant learning environment that empowers students for success."

Dr. Nevill holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Eastern Illinois University. He then earned his Master of Music and Doctorate of Musical Arts in Percussion Performance from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).
