At GateWay Community College, student success often depends on more than what happens in the classroom. This quarter, the college received a meaningful boost thanks to the generosity of 100+ Women Who Care Valley of the Sun, whose collective donation will directly support GateWay students facing unexpected financial challenges.

The group’s $7,300 contribution, made through the Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation, is designated for GateWay’s Student Emergency Fund—an essential resource that helps students stay on track when life takes an unforeseen turn.

For many GateWay students, higher education is a balancing act. They juggle coursework with jobs, family responsibilities, and tight financial margins. When emergencies arise—whether it’s a car repair, medical expense, childcare issue, or housing instability—those challenges can quickly become barriers to continuing their education.

The Student Emergency Fund is designed to meet these moments with urgency and care. By providing immediate, short-term financial assistance, the fund helps cover critical needs that might otherwise force students to pause or abandon their studies. These timely interventions ensure students can remain enrolled, focused, and moving toward their goals.

This latest gift strengthens GateWay’s ability to respond quickly when students need help most. Rather than long-term aid, the fund focuses on rapid support—ensuring that a temporary setback does not become a permanent disruption.

“At GateWay, we see firsthand how quickly unexpected challenges can impact a student’s ability to continue their education,” said Dr. Amy Diaz, President of GateWay Community College. “We are incredibly grateful to 100+ Women Who Care Valley of the Sun for their generosity. Their support allows us to meet students in critical moments and help them stay on the path to success.”

Since 2015, 100+ Women Who Care Valley of the Sun has donated more than $1.5 million to nonprofits across the region, demonstrating the power of collective giving to strengthen communities.

GateWay Community College is proud to partner with organizations that share a commitment to removing barriers and expanding opportunities. Through this support, more students can persist through challenges, complete their education, and build a stronger future.
