Train to Become a Pharmacy Technician

Pharmacy Technicians help pharmacists dispense prescription medication to consumers or healthcare professionals.

This 80-hour, non-credit program will prepare students to enter the pharmacy field and to pursue certification including the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB exam. Content includes pharmacy medical terminology, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining generic and brand names drugs and much, much more.

Pharmacy Technicians work in pharmacies, including those found in drug, general merchandise, and grocery stores, and in hospitals. Most work full time, but many work part time. Employment of Pharmacy Technicians is expected to grow 6 percent from 2022 to 2032, faster than the average for all occupations.

Learners who complete this program are eligible to participate in an optional volunteer externship opportunity with a local company/agency/organization whose work aligns with this area of study in order to gain valuable hands-on experience. Note: Additional documentation including health records, immunizations, drug-screening, criminal background checks, etc. may be required by the externship facility.
