Heidi Hutchinson

Heidi and David Hutchins met when they were both pursuing dual graduate degrees in business/health services administration and are passionate about helping students to achieve their academic goals.

David Hutchins is an expert in Data Analytics, Statistics, and Pharmaceutical Research. His research has been published in scientific journals, including the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) and The American Journal of Medicine.

Heidi Hutchins has taught classes in the GateWay Division of Business & Information Technologies since 1992. She planned, organized, and facilitated the 1st Annual Gateway Entrepreneurship Business Plan Competition in Spring, 2012. Heidi Hutchins was the lead Faculty Member and Program Director for the Health Information Technology (HIT) grant. In this capacity, she wrote new degree, certificates, and course curriculum, hired and supervised grant-funded staff, recruited students, hired faculty, wrote syllabi and taught courses, and completed grant reporting. Efforts resulted in over $1,140,854 million in financial support to the college through the HIT grant. Students in the HIT program earned in over 1,300 Certificates of Completion and supported a state-wide effort to convert from paper to electronic medical records in physician offices and hospitals state-wide.

Heidi Hutchins participated in a team that won the GateWay Community College League for Innovation Award in 2003. She successfully developed a new program, “Study Abroad in Japan: Trade, Culture, Language and Entrepreneurship,” which was an innovation that included an international team. The team won the GateWay Community College League for Innovation Award in 2016-2017. She is currently a residential faculty member teaching Business, Economics, and Computer Information System classes at GateWay.

The Heidi and David Hutchins Scholarship at Gateway Community College is for students who are pursuing one of the business degrees at GateWay.
