GateWay Community College President Dr. Giovannini Elected to American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) Board
Presidents of member institutions of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) elected GateWay Community College President Eugene Giovannini to its board of directors, effective July 1.

According to AACC, the 32-member board of directors acts on behalf of the institutional members to create and re-create a vision for AACC and to determine and assure appropriate organizational performance. The Board is committed to guaranteeing accountability of AACC to the membership. Its mission is to "Build a Nation of Learners by Advancing America's Community Colleges."

Giovannini will serve a three-year term.  As a board member, he will be responsible for participating in meetings at least three times a year that are held in Washington, D.C., or elsewhere.

The AACC represents nearly 1,200 two-year, associate degree–granting institutions and more than 13 million students, as well as a growing number of international members in Puerto Rico, Japan, Great Britain, Korea, and the United Arab Emirates.  The colleges are the largest and fastest-growing sector of U.S. higher education, enrolling close to half (46 percent) of all U.S. undergraduates.

Since March of 2002, Dr. Eugene Giovannini has served as President of GateWay Community College, a college of 16,000 annual student enrollments and a skill center with 6,000 annual student enrollments.

Dr. Giovannini holds a Doctor of Education degree in Community College Education from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University at Blacksburg, Virginia. In addition, he has done post-doctoral work in Executive Education at Wharton Institute for Research on Higher Education at the University of Pennsylvania. He holds both Master of Education and Bachelor of Science degrees in Business Education from Bloomsburg University at Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania.
