GateWay Community College recently was ranked 5th by Washington Monthly magazine as one of the "Best Colleges for Adult Learners – 2 Year Colleges".
GateWay Community College is known for its occupational and professional education programs in automotive technology, court reporting, healthcare, industrial design, HVAC, nursing, production technology and water resource technology, to name a few.
"These programs are attractive to adult learners wanting to improve their career opportunities or for those who have earned a bachelor's degree but are struggling to find the right job," says Steven Gonzales, president of GateWay Community College. "Adult learners face life challenges different than our traditional age students, so we try to be strategic in our class times, providing evening, weekend and some online options to help them succeed."
In addition to GateWay, five other Maricopa Community Colleges made the list:
5 – GateWay Community College
11– Mesa Community College
37 – Rio Salado College
49 – Phoenix College
59 – Chandler Gilbert Community College
78 – Paradise Valley Community College
Another factor helping adult learners is having a Children’s Learning Center on campus where students can drop off their children while they attend classes.
As part of the Maricopa Community College District, tuition at GateWay Community College is relatively low, and with scholarships and other forms of financial aid, students are able to afford to attend college.
The average student age at GateWay vacillates between 28 to 30 years old. This ranking recognizes that GateWay has been successful in helping students, age 25 and over achieve the change they seek.
