Jedediah Timmerman, U.S. Army veteran and Occupational Health and Safety (OSHT) student at GateWay Community College, was recently awarded the Grainger Tools for Tomorrow Scholarship for Fall 2019. Grainger, widely known as the leading supplier of maintenance, repair and operating products, has been awarding this $2,000 scholarship to students across the country since 2006. Grainger gives this award to two GateWay students each academic year.
“The scholarship is a great way to recognize exceptional students who will soon be seeking employment as Occupational Safety and Health professionals,” said OSH Program Director Michael Bryant.
Grainger’s focus for this scholarship is to aid technical education students nationwide achieve their education goals. In addition to the monetary scholarship, Grainger awards recipients with a customized Westward toolkit upon successful completion of their technical program.
“Grainger understands the importance of trade and technical education, and we are grateful for their commitment to helping prepare the next generation of our workforce,” said GateWay Development Officer Ann Blatte.
Timmerman was more than delighted to have been awarded this scholarship. “I’ve never had anything like this happen to me before,” Timmerman said. “Great opportunities have been afforded to me through the GI Bill and GateWay Community College. It’s an amazing feeling to win such an award.”
Once he is finished with his studies, Timmerman plans to return to his hometown of Houston to work in the oil industry.
The GateWay Community College OSHT Program is the only one of its kind in the state.
