Governor Katie Hobbs joined leaders from The Arizona Community College Coordinating Council (AC4) at GateWay Community College (GWCC) - Washington Campus on Thursday, April 25 to announce the Community College Workforce Scholarship Program.

The Community College Workforce Scholarship Program allows students to complete training for meaningful careers in high-wage, high-growth industries. The statewide scholarship program will receive $4.5 million and offer students of any age the chance to earn a two-year degree, a certificate, or skills and training in various programs.

AC4 consists of ten independent community college districts, including the Maricopa County Community College District, with a mission of strengthening communities across Arizona through education and workforce development.

AC4 Chair Dr. Stacy Klippenstein, Maricopa County Community College District Chancellor Dr. Steven R. Gonzales, CEO Carlos Contreras, from the Office of Economic Opportunity, and Karla Morales from the Arizona Tech Council joined Governor Hobbs.

Governor Hobbs discussed new funding for the scholarship program through the America Rescue Plan Act, which will be awarded to students through their community colleges. Colleges may distribute funds to financially help each student enroll and complete their academic programs leading to a certificate, degree, or training, resulting in high-wage and high-growth jobs.

Nurses, IT professionals, truck drivers, manufacturing technicians, and more can find the breakthrough they have been looking for in the Workforce Scholarship Program which will help fund students’ educational expenses including tuition and fees.

“Community colleges like GateWay are workforce partners. Our college's mission has always been to help students take the most direct and affordable path to high-paying jobs,” said GWCC President, Dr. Amy Diaz. “This scholarship program will make obtaining a degree, certificate, and training more accessible for current and future students.”
