Dr. Amy Diaz celebrating with students at the 2025 Commencement Ceremony.
Dear GateWay students and friends,
It’s been an excellent school year, and although I’m sure we’re all ready for the summer, the end of the spring semester is always somewhat sad for me. Campus gets a little quiet, and so many faces that I’ve cherished seeing on campus are on to the next step.
For some of you, that step is transferring to a university. For others, it’s an exciting job in your new career. And fortunately for GateWay (and me!), there are many who will return back to campus to continue their education during the summer or fall.
Whichever of these describes you, please know that your presence has been felt at GateWay. Your instructors, advisors, and classmates were all glad you were here. I, too, am glad you chose this school to make your mark.
There are so many things to celebrate from this past year! Commencement is always the big one, and GateWay awarded almost 2,400 degrees and certificates for 2024-2025. And the outlook looks good for you graduates, as PayScale.com ranked GateWay as #1 in Arizona and #9 in the nation for students’ earnings among community colleges. Hopefully most of you are not only headed for a great job, but also leaving with no student debt, as our Financial Aid Office awarded over $10.4 million in grants and almost $1.4 million in scholarships this past year.
Thank you to our Student Leadership Council for planning great events, and our Gecko Athletes who put in countless hours of practice and competition. I also appreciate every one of you who dedicated time to volunteer work, a true passion at GateWay. I encourage you to stay connected with the college as an Alumni and a Gecko for life.
Have a great summer!
Fondly,
Dr. Amy Diaz, President of GateWay Community College
