What is HEERF III/CRRSAA

The Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds are provided under the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act and the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, to help provide financial relief to college students for tuition, fees, housing, childcare, dependent care and other eligible educational expenses.

GateWay Community College will begin disbursing the Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds (HEERF III) directly to students November 21-23, 2022.

The following information will be helpful for you to understand the fund, processes and eligibility.

Frequently Asked Questions

For the automatic distribution, each recipient must have a valid 2022-2023 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with Gateway Community College and must demonstrate exceptional financial need.

  • Must be a US citizen or eligible non-citizen
  • Must be meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements during the eligible term receiving HEERF I, HEERF II, or HEERF III grants.
    • If not meeting SAP, students are eligible to appeal SAP status.
  • Must have an expected family contribution (EFC) between 0 and 9999.
    • If your EFC is greater than 9,999 and your income or circumstances have changed, you may request a professional judgment to review your EFC (circumstances including but not limited to changes in employment, income, medical, mental health, housing, food, household, child care, dependent care, etc.). 
  • Must have completed or be currently attending classes in a degree or certificate program during the Fall 2022 semester
  • In order to qualify for emergency assistance funds, you must:
    • Be enrolled during the Fall 2022 semester or newly enrolled during the Fall 2022 term in a Federal Student Aid eligible certificate, degree, transfer pathway or workforce program.
    • Meet eligibility requirements to participate in Title IV, Federal Student Aid programs. 
    • Meet other eligibility requirements as established by your college.

The emergency assistance funds will be provided to you through the refund method you have selected in your Student Center under “manage refunds.” Please  make sure you have selected a refund method. It is also important that you monitor your student email account for important updates.
