Banking and Finance
The Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in Banking and Finance program has been developed in cooperation with the Central Arizona Chapter of the American Institute of Banking and the Institute of Financial Education for entry or advancement in the banking profession. The program is designed to prepare students for the many challenges of the world of finance, since the role of the modern banker today demands specialized knowledge, flexible job performance, communication skills and customer service. A Certificate of Completion (CCL) in Banking and Finance is available.

Students must earn a grade of C or better in all courses within the program.
- Apply effective oral, written, and visual business communication skills.
- Use basic mathematics and accounting principles to report the financial position of an individual or organization.
- Apply current technology to specific business tasks.
- Assess the legal, ethical and social implications of business decisions and their impact on various individuals, groups and societies.
- Demonstrate critical thinking through written and oral formats.
- Apply functions of modern business and banking principles including risk to business situations.
- Examine the characteristics and significance of the American banking system, including types of accounts, banking services, and the relationship of commercial banks to their depositors.
- Apply basic rules of accounting to financial transactions and decision making.
- Articulate the principles of consumer lending by financial institutions to make product decisions.
- Evaluate various investment forms including government securities, stocks and bonds, real estate, and retirement plans.
- Apply effective interpersonal and customer service skills in the workplace.
