Graduation

GateWay provides graduation specifically for students graduating with degrees and certificates in Occupational and University Transfer education (Credit) or Trade and Technical Training (Clock) programs. Students graduating from a Credit program need to complete the appropriate application or paperwork that pertains to your program.

GradFest 2020 (These have been canceled)

GateWay provides a mini celebration, called GradFest, at each college location to recognize your up-coming milestone. Details on GradFest 2020 will be shared in Spring 2020.

Graduation Dates: (Commencement and convocation ceremonies have been canceled. Alternate options are being investigated)

Monday, March 2, 2020 (Application Deadline for May graduation). If you are graduating from a clock program, you are able to pay up until May 7, and do not need to apply. 

Thursday, May 7, 2020 (Commencement Ceremony)

Location & Start Times:

Location:  Arizona State University, Desert Financial Arena (formerly Wells Fargo Arena) on Fifth Street, Tempe (NOTE: Free parking is available in Lot 59 and Packard Stadium Parking Garage)

Start time:  7 p.m.

Student Arrival Time: Students may begin to arrive at 6 p.m. and need to check-in before 6:45 p.m. or you may not be able to participate in the ceremony. Doors open at 6 p.m. for check in. 

The ceremony will be streamed live through the college YouTube channel.

There are no locker facilities to store personal items, so please leave them in your vehicle or ask your guest(s) to hold for you. ASU enforces a strict clear bag policy and prohibits several items from entering the arena. Click here for more details on what is prohibited. Entry into the Desert Financial Arena does not require tickets for commencement. 

Tickets:

Tickets are not required for the 2020 Commencement ceremony. 

Convocations

Separately, several cultural convocations will be held, leading up to GateWay's graduation ceremony. Visit the Maricopa County Community College District website for details. Registration is required. 

 

Graduation for Trade and Technical Training Programs

GateWay Community College combines commencement ceremonies into one for both credit and clock programs.

Eligible commencement ceremony participants must meet the following criteria:

  • Pay the appropriate document and commencement fees
  • Have completed all requirements for the certificate, OR be enrolled in coursework that will be completed by June 30, 2019. Anyone completing after June 30 will not be eligible to walk in the 2020 commencement. 

Graduation Costs

  • Commencement: $25 (includes cap, gown, tassel and diploma cover)

Steps for a Successful Graduation

  1. Pay the $25 commencement ceremony fee at Enrollment Services, if you want to participate in the ceremony. The commencement fee is refundable up to two weeks prior to graduation. Fee includes:
    • Cap, gown, tassel and diploma cover
  2. Any debts within the Maricopa Community Colleges must be cleared before a certificate can be released.
  3. Please be sure to verify and correct as needed your address in the Student Center. All degrees/certificates will be mailed to the applicant’s address on record.

 

Graduation for Professional & Technical Education & University Transfer Programs

A graduation ceremony for those completing the Professional & Technical Education and University Transfer (Credit), as well as the Trade and Technical Training (Clock) programs, is held once a year in May. GateWay graduation is the official ceremony that confers certificates and degrees upon students who have fulfilled program requirements.

Eligible commencement ceremony participants must meet the following criteria:

  • Pay the appropriate document and commencement fees
  • Have completed all requirements for the degree and/or certificate, OR be enrolled in coursework that will be completed within four weeks of commencement

Graduation Costs

  • There is no cost to apply for graduation
  • Commencement: $25 (includes cap, gown, tassel and diploma cover)

Steps for a Successful Graduation

  1. It is recommended that students schedule an appointment with an Academic Advisor as early as possible to review their program requirements for graduation. Students can also refer to the Catalog and Student Handbook to check on their program requirements for graduation.
  2. Official transcripts must be sent directly to GateWay from any Maricopa college or other college or university for the courses that will apply toward the degree/certificate.
  3. Graduation application deadlines:
    (Next business day, if deadline falls on a weekend)

    • Submit application for fall semester by November 1 
    • Submit application for spring commencement by March 2 
    • Submit application for summer by June 1
  4. A notification letter will be email to the official student email account approximately 50 days prior to the day of the commencement ceremony detailing this event and cap and gown pickup.

PTK students should see their PTK advisor regarding the stole and tassels prior to commencement.
Veterans should see their Veterans Representative when submitting an application to graduate.
