Medication Assistant

If you are interested in expanding your skills as a Certified Nursing Assistant or Licensed Nursing Assistant, this new Medication Assistant program is for you! During this fast-paced four credit course, you will learn how to administer select medications in addition to the role and scope of the medication assistant. This course will help you grow professionally in your career path and is a great step in the pathway to becoming a healthcare professional. This course prepares you to take the certification examination.

This course provides basic background information and routine medication administration procedures that are essential for the safe administration of select medications by experienced, qualified, certified/licensed nursing assistants in long term care, skilled nursing, rehabilitation centers, group homes, assisted living, and other settings where routine medications are given on an ongoing basis. Course content includes basic principles of medication administration, simple math calculations, and categories of medications, and the “hands-on” components which include laboratory practice, simulation and clinical experiences.



All students interested in this program must have a minimum of six months of experience working as a Certified Nursing Assistant or Licensed Nursing Assistant. Health and Safety documentation is required including fingerprint clearance card, urine drug screen, and background check. Students who are currently employed may be able to have some or all of these requirements supplied by their employers. 

Nursing Information Sessions will be held on Mondays at 5 p.m. or Thursdays at 11:30 a.m. (following campus tours). Information sessions will be held in the CH Building; stop by the lobby for session location.
