Universidad de Guanajuato to visit GateWay’s Water Resource Technology Program

Monday, December 9, 2013

GateWay Community College’s Water Resource Technology program will host 13 visitors from Universidad de Guanajuato on the campus Dec. 16-21 as part of a partnership between the institutions.

Universidad de Guanajuato and Maricopa County Community College District entered into an agreement in 2010 to provide intercultural and global competencies for students and faculty at both institutions including education abroad, student and faculty exchanges, and joint activities.

"A few years ago we had the opportunity to visit Universidad de Guanajuato's campus in Mexico and a partnership began to flourish," said Mario Castaneda, Water Resources Technology program director. "We are extremely proud to have the opportunity to host the University and highlight some of the programs, technology and techniques we use at GateWay Community College."

While visiting Arizona, Universidad de Guanajuato representatives will visit water and wastewater treatment plants in the Valley as well as the college.  The group will also have the opportunity to take the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality water/wastewater operator certificate exam. GateWay offers the certification exam in conjunction with the ADEQ and is the only entity in the state to offer them.

GateWay is home to one of four Water Resource Technology programs in the country.

"GateWay's Water Resource Technology program has gained national attention due to the quality of its graduates," said Castaneda. "The visit by the University of Guanajuato takes this recognition to an international level."
