GateWay Community College is opening its doors to the public on Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 3 to 6 p.m. for an HVAC Open House at its Washington Campus. The event is designed to connect students and community members with training and career opportunities in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC-R) industry — a field that continues to see high demand across Arizona and beyond.

As National Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) Week begins on Monday, September 8, the observance highlights ongoing work to expand access to affordable, high-quality education. With nine of the 10 Maricopa Community Colleges currently designated as HSIs, the system remains committed to expanding accessible pathways to college and preparing students for high-opportunity professions throughout Arizona.

Today, GateWay Community College joins the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program’s expanded Unlocking Opportunity network—an initiative designed to help community colleges reform programs in ways that improve student outcomes—ensuring students earn degrees that lead to good-paying jobs.

Arizona PBS invites the community to attend a Career Resource Fair & Film Screening on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. at the Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Center, located at 1375 E. Sponsored by GateWay Community College, this free event will connect attendees with valuable career advancement resources and offer an exclusive look at upcoming Arizona PBS workforce-related programming.

GateWay Community College is excited to announce the launch of a new Professional Dog Grooming Program, developed in partnership with Groom Curriculum, a leader in grooming education. This hands-on, career-focused program is designed for Phoenix-area individuals seeking to enter the high-demand field of pet grooming.

The Aspen Institute College Excellence Program (Aspen) announced today that Dr. Tom Nevill, Vice President of Academic Affairs at GateWay Community College, is one of 40 leaders selected for the 2025-26 Aspen Rising Presidents Fellowship. Rigorously selected from among over 120 applicants, fellows will learn from—and apply to their own contexts—lessons from over a dozen years of Aspen research about how to lead an institution to higher and more equitable levels of student success.  

GateWay Community College proudly announces the recipients of the Gene Haas Scholarship for the Summer 2025 term. Thanks to the continued support of the Gene Haas Foundation, seven students enrolled in GateWay’s CNC Machining program at the Central City Campus have each been awarded a $1,000 scholarship to assist with tuition, textbooks, and essential program-related supplies.

Maricopa Community Colleges is proud to join institutions nationwide in celebrating Community College Month. Observed annually in April, this year’s theme, “Best Decision Ever,” highlights the life-changing opportunities community colleges create for learners of all backgrounds. With 10 colleges and 31 satellite locations strategically positioned throughout the Valley, Maricopa Community Colleges educates more Arizona residents than any other higher education institution in the state.

The second annual Making Music Fest, hosted by the Phoenix Forge makerspace, is happening Friday, April 4, 2025 from 6-9:00 p.m. This free, all-ages event is a showcase of artists and musicians from across Arizona who are creating hand-crafted instruments to make music from traditional to experimental.

Cadets from Civil Air Patrol’s Sky Harbor Squadron ranked first in Arizona in the All Service Division Gold Tier in the Air and Space Forces Association’s CyberPatriot competition. This was the first year the team reached the semifinals. The All Service Division includes high school students in the Civil Air Patrol, JROTC, or U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps.

Myrna Harrison, former president of GateWay, Rio Salado, and Phoenix College, passes away at the age of 93.

Today, GateWay Community College is proud to join the Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation (MCCF) and Maricopa Community Colleges in launching EmpowerED for Student Success, a three-year, $20 million fundraising campaign aimed at increasing financial support and removing barriers to help students attain a college degree and strengthen the state’s workforce. This bold initiative is a critical step toward ensuring that every student in Maricopa County has access to higher education and the opportunity to thrive in and beyond college.
