Diverse group of studentsDEI 101 WORKSHOP SERIES

Want to learn about topics related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, but aren’t sure where to start? DEI 101 workshops provide a free, low pressure space to learn the basics about different issues and ask questions.

Click here to sign up for any of our workshops, then stop by the Center for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in-person (MA Building, Room 1150) or join us online for a free new workshop every other Wednesday and Thursday. 

Participants will learn definitions and fundamental concepts around gender, sex, and sexual identities, and explore how these relate to their own lives and work.

Arab-American and Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Film Festival

April marks Arab-American Heritage Month and May is Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Month. At GateWay, we are celebrating the stories of these populations through films. The featured films share the experiences of these communities throughout the United States. 

Natour's Grocery 
Filmmaker Nadine Natour turns her lens on her parents and her hometown, Appomattox, Va, to capture the story of her parents emigration from Palestine to the United States. Watch the short film here

Simon Shaheen - Connecting Cultures 
This film follows Palestinian American musician, Simon Shaheen, in his daily life in the Bay Ridge neighborhood of Brooklyn. Watch the short film here.

Asian Americans PBS Series 
This series traces the story of Asian Americans, spanning 150 years of immigration, racial politics, and cultural innovation. Wash the documentary series here.

More Than a Face in the Crowd
A filmmaker explores the life of her great-aunt, Jane Chung, an actress who made a career for herself at a time when Asian-Americans faced widespread racism in Hollywood. Watch the short film here.

VISITING VOICES, POWERFUL PERSPECTIVES

In fall 2021, GateWay launched Visiting Voices, Powerful Perspectives, an annual speaker series that aims to expand the college community’s understanding of various subjects in diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice by inviting content experts to share uniquely informative and impactful lectures.
